Piccolo Theatre proudly presents Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, the third and final production in a hilarious and triumphant 10th Anniversary season at the Evanston Arts Depot.
Prepare yourself for three weddings, two duels, a dance number, a chase sequence, a love scene, a food fight and so much more. Carlo Goldoni’s 18th century comedy is about Truffaldino, a wily servant who madly fibs his way through an entire day as he serves not one master, but two -- without either of them knowing. His reward? An extra meal, some spare pocket change and the satisfaction of outsmarting his “betters”. Or so he hopes!
The Piccolo Ensemble discovered their love for commedia while putting on a production of Servant of Two Masters at Valparaiso University just over ten years ago under the direction of John Szostek. Now Artistic Director of the dynamic ensemble that grew out of that cast, Szostek masterfully brings this classic romp to the Piccolo stage with the world premier of Simpson’s elegant translation and a showcase of exquisite new masks created by commedia Maestro Antonio Fava. In Servant of Two Masters, the high art of comedy will be skillfully performed with service to laughter only.
